Job Share UK: Transforming the Way we Work

Holly Bailly While flexibility is on the increase, it is not happening fast enough or in the right ways to deliver what people, business or the economy really need for work and life in the 21st century.

Business is experiencing skills shortages and their is increasing pressure to deliver services in new ways and across all hours.

The Equals Opportunities Commission ‘Transformation of Work’ Report uncovered a massive waste of talent across the UK workforce. 6.5 million people in Britain today could be using their skills more fully if flexible working was available. Furthermore, the report also highlighted that half the working population, 52% of men and 48% of women, want to work more flexibly.

In January the Government announced ‘The Quality Part Time Work Fund’ - designed to open up more part-time jobs at a senior level and help employers find ways to make flexible working possible.

Leeds based company, Equals One were successful in their bid to the Fund and launched Jobshare UK in July 07.

Jobshare UK is a national job site, which allows employers to post higher-level flexible positions (full time positions to job share, part time and interim roles) and gives jobseekers the opportunity to search for flexible jobs and a potential jobshare partner.

Vivienne Duke, Director of Jobshare UK and winner of the Yorkshire Women of Achievement Business Award 2007, is delighted to be delivering this service. “I have been lucky enough to job share at a senior level and have experienced, first hand, the many benefits that flexible working brings to both the employer and employee. This is an exciting opportunity to expand our services to a national level and make a real impact on the flexible working opportunities available around the UK”

Jobshare UK is supported by a strong partnership of specialist organisations - Working Families and the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science Engineering & Technology) thus providing a gateway to numerous useful resources.
The partnership is also supported at a local level by Yorkshire Forward
